Talking NASA

2017-11-07
Speakers Bureau recently ran a successful recruitment campaign for outreach volunteers, adding about 60 new speakers to the current roster, and held a well-attended open house for current and interested members.

During a month-long recruitment effort in coordination with NASA Headquarters and the other centers, Johnson Space Center’s External Relations Office added volunteers who can go out and talk NASA and its role in expanding human space exploration at events around the country.

At the open house, speakers learned how they can get Speakers Bureau support for their engagements, as well as outreach materials. The International Space Station Program’s Raphael Grau, deputy manager of the External Integration Office and a seasoned speaker himself, shared his own experiences and knowledge with the eager group. Glenda Johnson from the External Relations Office added tips about official speaking engagements and acquiring exhibits and fielded questions from the audience. Within a little more than an hour, 50-plus team members received valuable insight with their refreshments and viewed potential exhibit items for show-and-tell with students and the general public.
