Traveling Abroad for Leisure? Leave the Government Device at Home

2021-06-17

Personal travel/vacation: JSC, Civil Servants and Contractors are reminded:

If you travel outside of the U.S. on personal travel/vacation, you may not take (i.e. transport, export, travel with, hand carry, ship, etc.) your government devices such as laptops, phones, iPads, memory devices, etc.  This is for your protection as well as to safeguard NASA information from unauthorized access, sabotage, theft, hacking, interception, etc..

Supervisors and employees must designate a back-up plan for work coverage during your absence.  International telework during unofficial travel is prohibited until the agency develops a policy that complies with the State Department’s process

Connecting a government or personal device to NASA from a non-U.S. location (even to check email) is considered telework.

This notice is being issued to ensure all employees are aware that if you take any of your government devices on outside the U.S. while on vacation your access will immediately be terminated to safeguard NASA information. Additionally, an incident investigation will be required and administrative actions may be taken.

We are all responsible for ensuring the safety and integrity of NASA equipment and information.
