Trio of NASA Leaders Reflect on Inclusion and Diversity in Team Building
On Sept. 23, Mark Geyer, director of NASA’s Johnson Space Center, joined forces with veteran NASA leaders — former NASA Administrator Major General Charles F. Bolden Jr. (USMC-retired) and former Johnson Director Captain Michael L. Coats (USN-retired) — for a lively virtual panel discussion. The trio reflected on how to build successful NASA teams, incorporate different perspectives, and generate creative solutions to ensure that we remain the world leader in human space exploration. Pulling on many past stories and experiences from their NASA and military backgrounds, the group shared a lot of laughs, as well as advice and best practices from their many years leading NASA and Johnson teams.

At NASA, we are guided by a set of core values: safety, integrity, teamwork, excellence, and inclusion. These values are embodied in all that we do as we work to put the first woman and next man on the Moon, successfully maintain human presence in space, and expand space exploration for the benefit of human life on Earth.
