Women of Color in STEM find a rising star in Jasmine J. Keeton

Jasmine J. Keeton, who supports the Flight Operations Directorate (FOD) Flight Planning and Safety Divisions, was recognized in October at the Women of Color STEM Conference in Detroit. She received the STEM Women of Color Rising Stars award.

Rising Stars are young women, approximately one to 22 years in the workforce, who are shaping technology for the future. The awardees are honored at a special recognition event during the Women of Color STEM Conference.

2018 marks the 23rd anniversary of the annual Women of Color in STEM Conference cohosted by Women of Color magazine, Consumers Energy and General Motors, with sponsorship by Lockheed Martin. 

Keeton began her career in the aerospace industry as a contractor with NASA’s Johnson Space Center in 1997. She is a graduate of Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering. Through the years, she’s gained unparalleled experience in FOD supporting numerous missions in the Mission Control Center. She plans and coordinates all international partner inputs for every activity astronauts perform aboard the International Space Station from day to day. In this position, she is honored to represent women of color, inspire youth and make history every day. Keeton also a dual role as a Flight Operations safety officer, ensuring payload experiments scheduled to be performed in space are safe for crew execution.

After traveling internationally and gaining a wealth of knowledge from these experiences, she has returned to school to obtain her master’s in engineering management for project management.

An original native of Detroit, Keeton is a constant reminder that “You never know where life will lead you … but make sure you lead by example.”
