C2M: Last chance to see AA-2 crew module

2018-07-26
There are now very limited opportunities to see the Ascent Abort-2 (AA-2) hardware being developed for the full-stress test of Orion's Launch Abort System. The self-guided tours for employees that had been happening every Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. are coming to an end on Wednesday, Aug. 1. The vehicle will soon be buttoned up and shipped to Glenn Research Center's Plum Brook Station in Sandusky, Ohio, where it will undergo several weeks of acoustics testing. It will return to Johnson in the September timeframe for integration with the separation ring that connects the crew module to its booster, but there are no guarantees it will be available for tours at that time.

Dates left to see the crew module between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.:

  • Thursday, July 26
  • Monday, July 30
  • Tuesday, July 31
  • Wednesday, Aug. 1
There is a roped off area with signage in Building 9S (the side facing Buildings 10 and 11) where you can come see the hardware before it launches and all the awesome work the team is doing. Note: Please be aware that sometimes tours will need to be canceled because of active operations.

Help stay Connected to the Mission through tours like this and with others facilities being made available to teams centerwide. Visit the Connecting to the Mission (C2M) website for more information about opportunities.
