Rivalry culminates in an Astros win, but it’s all in good fun

2017-11-14
Score one (maybe a few more runs than that) for the Astros—and astronauts.

The rivalry between NASA centers, Johnson Space Center and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), played out on the World Series baseball fieldbut it was all in good fun. However, in case anyone was wondering …

Johnson—er, the Astros!—came out on top.

Johnson Director Ellen Ochoa, who laid down the gauntlet on Twitter with JPL Director Michael Watkins, got to see the evidence that her special shipment made it to California.

At NASA, we're all just good sports, really, and one team at the end of the day. The World Series experience allowed Johnson team members to show their support and root for the hometown team in very out-of-this-world ways.

Now that baseball fever is over, Johnson will continue to partner with JPL to send the best team of humans and robots into the cosmos. There's much more discovery to be done, so it's back to business ... at least until the next postseason.
