JSC External Relations Office named Government Communications Team of the Year

NASA Johnson Space Center’s External Relations Office was recognized as the Government Communications Team of the Year at the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Houston Chapter’s 2016 Excalibur Awards on June 23.
Honored for its integrated communications initiatives in 2015, the External Relations team worked diligently and proactively to complete a record-setting year, honing traditional tactics and leveraging unique approaches to highlight the agency’s Year in Space mission while partnering with groups such as One Direction and 20th Century Fox’s production of “The Martian” to extend its reach from “Space to Ground.”
“The PRSA Excalibur Awards represent the best and the brightest in Houston communications and have been presented annually for the past 31 years to organizations in the greater Houston area that have successfully addressed contemporary issues with exemplary professional skill, creativity and resourcefulness,” said Kim Miller, PRSA Houston Chapter’s president. “This is a wonderful achievement, and NASA Johnson Space Center is to be congratulated for their impactful communications work.”
The Excalibur Awards recognize complete communications programs that incorporate sound research, planning, execution and evaluation and meet the highest standards of performance in the public relations profession. The judges also looked for evidence of cost-effective use of both in-house and external resources.
“While the award is from the communications community, it reflects efforts from all across the center,” said Mike Kincaid, director of the JSC External Relations Office. “Whether we reached students, teachers, elected leaders, media or the general public—we worked together to get other people to take action to advance human spaceflight.”
The winners were announced at the 31st annual Excalibur Awards gala in downtown Houston.
