On deck: the Astros with our astros (and the JSC team)

2016-02-03

Astros ballplayers Luis Valbuena and Lance McCullers Jr., along with play-by-play broadcaster Robert Ford, visited their namesake and a whole different kind of team—the Johnson Space Center team—on Jan. 21. Astronaut Terry Virts, most recently a commander for Expedition 43, showed the local celebrities the inner workings of the “home base” of NASA’s astronauts and the human spaceflight machine.

Before signing autographs at an employee event in Rocket Park, Valbuena, McCullers Jr. and Ford took in the sights at JSC, visiting mission control, the Space Vehicle Mockup Facility, Robotics and more. The tour wound up also being a very “tweet-worthy” affair, as the JSC team gave the Astros a taste of a rigorous space training regimen. The Astros team, as well as McCullers and Virts, offered their own perspectives on the full day.
