Starport’s Wellness Program receives national recognition
Starport was recently awarded the Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite and Worksite Innovation Award by the American Heart Association.
The American Heart Association recognized Starport’s wellness program as a Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite and awarded Starport the Worksite Innovation Award. The award honors worksite wellness programs for going above and beyond when it comes to the health and well-being of their employees.
The Gold Level Fit-Friendly Worksite highlights employers that fulfill criteria such as offering employees physical activity support, increasing healthy eating options at work and promoting a wellness culture. The Worksite Innovation Award is given to employers who achieve all criteria for gold-level recognition and lead the development and implementation of innovative, effective programs that promote physical activity and healthy eating, specifically in the workplace.
Starport’s commitment to fostering a culture of wellness at JSC is grounded in a collaborative model that includes an active Wellness Committee, on-site fitness center and café, as well as an active partnership with Shape Up Houston, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Houstonians lose weight and lead healthy lifestyles.
“It's very exciting to think that one of the most recognized agencies in the world is stepping up to improve the health and well-being of our employees, and these awards provide great confirmation that the Johnson Space Center is truly striving to be NASA’s healthiest center,” said Wellness Director Evan Thoman.
As the noted in the American Heart Association website, there’s no better benefit to offer employees than helping them have healthier, longer lives, whether the workplace is a school, corporation, hospital or any other type of worksite.
