Johnson Marks the 46th Annual MLK Jr. Day with a Downtown Houston Parade
On Feb. 10, 2024, approximately 60 people gathered in downtown Houston, rocking their NASA and African American Employee Resource Group (AAERG) gear, for the 46th Annual Original Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade.
Leading the procession was Grand Marshal Benjamin Crump, ESQ, alongside groups from NASA's Johnson Space Center and Space Center Houston.
Attendees included Johnson Associate Director for Vision and Strategy Douglas Terrier, AAERG Chair Andrea Browne, AAERG Chair Elect Latoy Jones, Cornelius Booker, Kai Harris, Robert Blake, Jasmine Keeton, Kamwana Mwara, Edna Smith, Chasity Williams, and numerous other Johnson employees with supportive family and friends.
“February is a time to recognize Black Americans for their vital role in NASA’s achievements and encourage youth to explore STEM opportunities for the unified bright future of human space exploration,” said Terrier. “Our commitment to diversity and inclusion ensures that the legacy and contributions of the Black community are celebrated, paving the way for future generations to dream big and reach for the stars.”
Johnson employees distributed NASA stickers and pins to engage youth in the agency’s mission. The festivities featured Space Center Houston's float, high school bands, drill and dance teams, youth organizations, and more.
