Johnson Employees Celebrate Bike to Work Day
On Friday, May 19, the commute to work looked a little different at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, as dozens of employees swapped their cars for human-powered and electric bikes to celebrate Bike to Work Day with their colleagues.

Volunteer pro-bike commuters led groups of employees on rides from their neighborhoods to Johnson to ensure cyclists traversed a safe, suggested route. All routes culminated in the Johnson Morning Celebration where employees enjoyed refreshments, raffles, and other free activities generously provided by local companies. Seabrook-based bike shop Slow Twitch Niche hosted a ghost wheel contest, Trek offered scratch cards and e-bike test drives, and REI provided a hydration station and raffle. Chick-fil-a, Boondoggles, Star Cinema Grill, Main Event, and Cane’s donated raffle items for the event.
The Johnson Free Range Bicycle Program participated in the celebration as well, assisting cyclists with bike maintenance and sharing important safety information. Bike to Work Day was organized by the Johnson Sustainability Office, which also hosted prep sessions on safety and bike readiness in the weeks before the event.
