Space Day Texas March 3, 2015

2015-02-05

Save the date! Space Day 2015 is just around the corner and this year’s theme is "Dawn of a New Era."

NASA will be landing in Austin and the State Capitol on Tuesday, Mar. 3. Activities will include educational and interactive exhibits, presentations highlighting NASA and aerospace achievements and a celebration of the future of space exploration.

Texas schools can now register to attend Space Day at the Texas Capitol.

The activities will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mar. 3. The exhibits will be open to the public and educational activities on the Capitol grounds will be available for pre-registered Kindergarten through 12th grade public, private and home school students.

Visitors to Space Day Texas 2015 will see exhibits displayed in the Capitol Rotunda on several of NASA’s human spaceflight programs, including the International Space Station, NASA’s new Orion spacecraft and the Commercial Crew Program, which is working with private companies on the development of new space transportation systems.

On the Capitol lawn, K-12 teachers and students registered for the day will take part in hands-on activities and demonstrations related to spaceflight. Additional exhibits will be announced, but one must-see attraction is NASA’s Driven-to-Explore trailer, a multi-media exhibit immersing visitors in the world-class research and development role of the International Space Station. The Driven-to-Explore trailer also highlights the future destinations for human exploration, how NASA will use advanced human research to prepare for long-duration space travel, the next-generation of vehicles, surface systems destined for use beyond low-Earth orbit and the robotic missions that will pave the way. The Driven-to-Explore trailer also has a 4 billion-year-old moon rock that visitors can touch.
