Annual Employee Mentoring 2021
At NASA’s Johnson Space Center, the Women Excelling in Life and Leadership (WELL) Employee Resource Group (ERG) has been working diligently in the planning, coordination, and execution of meaningful virtual events to provide the NASA workforce with professional development, volunteering, and mentoring opportunities, as well as teleworking strategies.
On Oct. 15, 2021, WELL ERG Officers Janette Garcia and Jan Vedanth put on the Annual Employee Mentoring 2021 virtual event, consisting of one-hour sessions where Johnson early and mid-career professionals had the opportunity to meet virtually with late-career professionals for small-group discussions covering a variety of topics, including:
- Career Development
- Work/Life Balance
- Work-from-Home Tips
- Early Career
- Health and Fitness
- Program/Project Management
“Last year, I helped coordinate and execute the first virtual mentoring event for all employees at Johnson. My goal was to provide an opportunity for all NASA professionals, civil servants and contractors, to meet with senior leaders in small groups in order to learn from their lessons learned and their professional experiences.
This year, I had a strong desire to coordinate and execute another virtual mentoring event for all employees at NASA JSC, because I believe mentoring has a huge impact on employee retention. In early September, Jan and I started coordinating the Annual Employee Mentoring 2021 virtual event. Overall, we had 93 participants registered, and 23 small mentoring groups were formed consisting of three to four early and mid-career employees and one late-career professional per group. We would like to thank all of the employees who participated. A special thanks to our 23 mentors and our amazing opening remarks speaker, Ashley White. We hope this was a great experience for everyone! ” – Janette Garcia
On Oct. 15, 2021, approximately 93 Johnson professionals joined the Annual Employee Mentoring 2021 event to virtually meet, learn from each other’s life/professional experiences, and share work-from-home tips. Below are screenshots of some of the 23 small mentoring groups in action.
