Johnson Space Center Deputy Director Kirk Shireman threw down the gauntlet only days before, asking JSC team members to bring in food donations capable of stuffing his own truck for the final JSC Feeds Families drive on Aug. 27.
But JSC team members were not satisfied by merely stuffing Shireman’s truck. Oh no … it could never, ever be that simple … which, turns out, is a really good thing for the Galveston County Food Bank and Clear Lake Food Pantry, the beneficiaries of these overwhelming final donations.
Not to be outdone by the deputy director, organizations across the site saddled up their own assortment of trucks—as well as a sports car, military vehicle and a sassy, maneuverable rover—to join the parade of food donations heading to the Gilruth Center to “Stuff a Truck” (the really big one).
The results? Overwhelming. And generous. But best of all, JSC team members were roused that morning not only by caffeine, but by an event that ended up offering a lot of entertainment value on top of its charitable purpose.
