Silver Snoopy Award presented to Robert Kowalski

Robert Kowalski of NASA White Sands Test Facility (WSTF) was presented the prestigious Silver Snoopy Award on Oct. 29, 2012, by Mike Coats, former astronaut and director of Johnson Space Center. The Silver Snoopy is a small silver lapel pin that has flown on a space shuttle mission. Coats presented a Silver Snoopy that had flown on the final flight of the Space Shuttle Endeavour during STS-134.

Kowalski was recognized for his sustained achievements in the support of NASA’s human spaceflight programs. His dedication to the safety of the Space Shuttle Program has been demonstrated throughout his career, spanning from subsystem management of the shuttle’s Reaction Control Systems to development of depot repair certifications and ensuring the safety and viability of NASA’s critical propulsion test infrastructure necessary for testing human spaceflight propulsions systems at WSTF.

The Silver Snoopy is given by NASA’s Astronaut Office for outstanding performance to those who have significantly contributed to the space agency’s goals for human exploration and development of space. The Silver Snoopy is awarded to less than one percent of the NASA workforce each year.

Kowalski is an aerospace engineer and was recently selected as chief of the Propulsion Test Office at WSTF. He served as acting office chief of Technical Services prior to his selection. His NASA career began in the Propulsion and Power Division at JSC in 1980.
