Message from Mark Geyer

2018-10-18
The message below was sent to the Johnson workforce by Center Director Mark Geyer at 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018.

JSC Team,

Our center has served as the iconic setting to some of humankind’s greatest achievements. For nearly 60 years, as part of NASA’s nationwide team, JSC has led the world in human space exploration. As we look forward to the next era of human spaceflight, we are releasing a new external tagline and brand to increase awareness about our upcoming missions and engage the Houston community to get onboard with the excitement.

After feedback from you – our employees – industry partners and the Houston community, I’ve chosen Giant Leaps Start Here as our new center external tagline. This new moniker evokes a sense of wonder and a desire to push ever forward. It points to the near term achievements that we will complete with the ISS, Commercial Crew, and Orion programs, highlights our future lunar endeavors (Gateway, etc.) and reminds us of our rich history of exploration. Giant Leaps Start Here will be a rallying cry for space city, where NASA is as synonymous with Houston as the Astros, the rodeo, and traffic.

This tagline is distinct from our “Dare/Unite/Explore” vision statement that I announced as the strategic vision for the center earlier this summer. “Dare/Unite/Explore” is our internal vision and helps us focus our efforts on the upcoming missions and our future plans. The external tagline encourages the public to learn more about the future of NASA and the role that JSC will play going forward.
The external tagline will appear on clothing and buildings across the city, engaging the community and reminding them that wherever giant leaps take us, they start at JSC.

The new tagline will be unveiled publicly at our Open House on Oct. 27. I hope you and your families will join us for this exciting community event.

If you have any questions, please ask them using the Ask the Directors email JSC-Ask@mail.nasa.gov.
