Starport continues to refine offerings and expand capabilities to serve the NASA Johnson Space Center team, and a smoothie bar at the Gilruth Center that debuted Sept. 20 only enhances the updated experience.
Located in the lobby near the gym inside the Gilruth Center, the smoothie bar features assorted fresh-fruit smoothies, hot and chilled coffee drinks, salads and grab-and-go fruit.
“Starport’s mission is ‘To empower lives and promote the overall well-being of the JSC team,’” said Deborah Denton-Misfeldt, manager, Exchange (Starport) Operations. “Starport seeks to offer healthy food options on-site: in the Buildings 3 and 11 cafés, in the vending machines and in the micro markets available in Buildings 1 and 30. The smoothie bar at the Gilruth was put in place as a direct response to survey feedback that having healthy food options—post workout—would be appreciated.”
The smoothie bar is being operated by CulinArt as a 90-day pilot to determine demand and optimal hours of operation.
Now, staying active and healthy has become more convenient for those who enjoy a refreshing smoothie. Flavors to try include strawberry banana, peanut butter banana, green machine, cantaloupe carrot and antioxidant blast. These different choices also include “booster” options for added nutritional impact.
Need to replenish after “legs” day? Or, do you just want sweet relief from Houston’s sweltering humidity? A short drive down Second Street could lead you to what you’re craving.
The smoothie bar is open for business before work and during lunch.
