NASA interns help ignite a passion for space and exploration during outreach visit

2018-07-02

On June 27, six NASA Johnson Space Center interns led an outreach event sponsored by the International Space Station Program. The volunteers interacted with more than 125 children ranging from Pre-K to fifth grade at Southmayd Elementary School in Houston.

The young students enjoyed activities such as a space food talk showcasing prepackaged samples; a planetary science demo; and an interactive question-and-answer session, along with their teachers. This event actively engaged the kids, teachers and faculty members during the two-hour workshop. The budding future explorers reveled in learning about NASA, how their hometown center is advancing human space exploration and how they, too, can one day leave their own imprints on the nation’s space program.
