Now Seeking: Proud Alumni for University Envoy Roles

As one of the hubs for knowledge and leadership in the areas of science and engineering, Johnson team members have been working with universities across the nation since the inception of the Manned Spaceflight Center nearly 60 years ago. To continue to grow these relationships and hone in on key opportunities, JSC has identified 14 universities for sustained strategic interactions in FY2020 and FY2021.

These universities were selected after a very careful analysis of JSC research and technology domain needs and relevant university capabilities as well as other important criteria for an integrated Center wide university strategy. This list of universities will be reviewed at least annually and updated to reflect evolving JSC needs.

The universities selected for the upcoming year are Texas A&M University, University of Texas at Austin, Rice University, University of Houston Main Campus, Texas Tech University, New Mexico State University, Georgia Tech University, Purdue University, University of Texas Medical Branch, Baylor College of Medicine, Prairie View A&M University, Oklahoma State University, University of Houston Clear Lake, and University of Texas El Paso. Texas Southern University has also been highlighted as a university to continue to develop a further relationship as a development partner.

In order to enhance relations with the selected universities, JSC’s University Collaboration and Partnership office has posted a NASA Talent Marketplace opportunity for alumni of these universities to play a key role as a University Envoy. The Envoy will play an important role engaging with the university and serving as an advocate for NASA with their alma mater.

The University Envoy position is a micro-detail role, meaning that during the detail the employee selected to the position will spend approximately eight hours each month working with the university to foster collaboration and promote opportunities to engage with Johnson Space Center on STEM research and student opportunities.
