The Dynamic Duo: Dynamo and NASA Team Up

by Catherine Ragin Williams | 2019-08-07

As part of Apollo 50th anniversary celebrations around the country, Houston’s soccer team, the Dynamo, joined in honoring humankind’s giant leap with Space City Night on July 27.

NASA’s Johnson Space Center made its presence felt at the game with the Driven to Explore mobile exhibit experience, inflatable mascot Cosmo, Space Exploration Vehicle and booths featuring the Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science division and Johnson’s Office of STEM Engagement. The Dynamo’s mascot, Diesel, joined in the celebrations with Cosmo as they mingled with fans and played it up for the cameras.

Johnson Associate Director Donna Shafer was also at the game, even shooting off the Dynamo’s cannon (a new feature for 2019) prior to kickoff and speaking with reporters and commentators.

Lucky attendees of the game went home with special scarves, commonly worn at soccer games, paying homage to the Apollo 50th anniversary with Dynamo and NASA colors.
