Celebrations Continue for Apollo 50th at University of Houston
On July 24, 50 years after the Apollo 11 splashed down inthe Pacific Ocean, NASA’s Johnson Space Center made a splash of its own at the University of Houston (UH) main campus to celebrate the Apollo 50th anniversary and herald its upcoming sister program, Artemis.
NASA had a bold presence at UH, bringing the Driven to Explore mobile exhibit, Moon rocks, a spacesuit photo opportunity display, Johnson's inflatable astronaut, Cosmo, as well as STEM activities and a NASA internships information booth. More than 650 people were immersed in the mobile exhibit experience, and even more—about 1,400—talked and visited with NASA inside the Student Center building.
Deb Ludban, deputy manager for Gateway's Vehicle System Integration Office, did a "Gateway 101" talk, while other UH alumni working at Johnson offered up guidance during a panel discussion for UH students interested in pursuing careers in spaceflight.
