Come Meet Snoopy at the Apollo 10 Lessons and Legacies Panel

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 10 mission, Johnson Space Center will be hosting a Lessons and Legacies panel on Thursday, April 25 at 9 a.m. in the Teague Auditorium. Topics discussed will include parallels between the Apollo 10 mission and modern spaceflight such as Orion, Gateway and the current mission to return to the moon.

In celebration of the historic mission, NASA has partnered with Peanuts Worldwide to bring STEM engagement to the world and to bring Snoopy to JSC. At the event, a life-size Snoopy will take the stage and be available for photos with employees after the events. There are rumors that there may even be a Snoopy cake!

The partnership with Peanuts stems from The Apollo 10 command and lunar modules being named Charlie Brown and Snoopy, after Charles Schulz’s Peanuts characters. Apollo 10 was the first crewed flight to orbit around the moon. It was the fourth manned mission in the Apollo space program and launched on May 18, 1969 with crew members General Thomas Stafford, Eugene Cernan, and John Young.

Joining the stage will be panel members Apollo 10 Commander Thomas Stafford, current astronaut Randy Bresnik, Deputy Manager of the Gateway Office Lara Kearney, and Apollo era propulsion engineer Bernie Rosenbaum.

The panel will be moderated by Assistant Manager to Orion’s Program Office Annette Hasbrook.

This event is open to all badged members of the JSC community and will conclude with a reception in the lobby. Light refreshments will be provided by Starport. All Silver Snoopy awardees are encouraged to wear their Silver Snoopy pins to the panel.

Later in the evening, Space Center Houston will also be hosting a Thought Leaders Series with General Stafford from 7-8PM. Reserve your free ticket to that event here.
