Speakers Bureau Events Bring Space to Down to Earth

2018-12-10

School may be nearing the winter break, but learning about human spaceflight and NASA missions is always in session when NASA Johnson Space Center volunteers support local outreach events. These visits, made possible by the External Relations Office’s (ERO’s) Speakers Bureau Program, bring the wonders of space up close for people in our surrounding communities, who are some of the agency’s most ardent supporters.

On Oct. 11, Dr. Glenda Johnson within Client Relations and Communications, a part of ERO, went out to the Texas State University’s Liberal Arts Advisory Council to give out information on NASA’s current projects, programs and internships. With 80 junior and senior college students, professors and professionals, Johnson shared materials about NASA’s Pathways Program and other career opportunities available to students. One of the main goals of the event was to allow junior and senior liberal arts students to see the value of their unique skills and training in STEM careers and professions—fields abundant at all NASA centers. The students, in turn, shared their own personal stories of accomplishment and career goals.

On Nov. 13, Public Affairs Officer Isidro Reyna, APR, spoke to students from the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) at the University of Houston as part of the group’s final meeting of the fall semester.
